Roberto Arjona

Roberto Arjona heads a staff of over 400 at North America’s first “destination spa,” Rancho La Puerta—founded in 1940 in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico. From the beginning, the resort’s mind/body/spirit fitness philosophy has included maintaining a major organic farm on the premises, promoting energy conservation and eco-friendly waste management, and pursuing other sustainable methods of providing service to international guests as well as the town of Tecate. Rancho La Puerta's emphasis on wellbeing also extends to its staff, their families, and the community of Tecate. Through a homegrown employee wellness program that provides fitness classes, complimentary medical services, healthy living workshops and a human development center, “Centro de Desarrollo Chuchuma,” Roberto and his staff have been able to significantly improve overall employee wellness. It is Roberto’s goal to promote programs like this to other leaders in the region to generate greater impact on our planet and the communities on which these businesses depend.
