Te Kapahaka o Te Wharekura o Hoani Waititi Marae
Ko Te Aho Matua te tāhūhū o tō mātou whare, ko ngā tikanga ngā heke, ko te whānau ngā poupou. Te Aho Matua is an underlying educational philosophy which leads us not only in our daily practices, but also throughout our life, upholding the notion of education from the womb to the grave and beyond. Te Aho Matua is compromised of a set of distinctly Māori values and encourages us to view the world in a Māori way. Our kapahaka group first hit the competition stage in 1995 and has competed regionally and nationally since then. We have won the regional competitions a record amount of times and won the national competition in 2002. We also won a mini national competition in 2020. All of our students participate in kapahaka as it is part of our cultural practices, however, some choose not to compete. Kapahaka is part of our hauora practices, creating wellness not only of the body, but also of the mind, spirit and soul. It is a huge part of what makes us who we are and we understand that when we perform, we carry the dreams of our ancestors with us. E tau ana.
